COMING SOON
Penelope, an American woman of Korean-descent, has exiled herself to Los Angeles, where the only person she knows is her dead brother's fiancée, Lauren. Penelope is escaping a complicated love affair with an older married man, but more than that, her beloved brother’s suicide, the tragic consequence of another life-defining event that occurred years before. Her friendships with other women showcase the frustration many women feel and yet have difficulty expressing.
Penelope is filling her days of exile by babysitting for Lauren’s friends and working on her dissertation on “French Rap: The Linguistic Changes of Modern Post-Colonial France,” something that rolls more easily off her tongue than her thesis does off her fingers. But when Lauren, with two children, starts an affair with a married German banker and neighbor, the circle quickly becomes a gauntlet of drawn knives on all of the neighborhood’s cell phones and social media.
Penelope realizes that she will never rest until she faces the consequences of death and the person she believes caused her the most pain in her life, so she returns to New York. However, there she creates her own upheaval by falling in love with the brother of her best friend growing up. Love and anger lead her into dark and desperate places until she at last brings them together in personal reconciliation.
